Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Professional Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) Services Malaysia

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is an advanced ultrasonic testing technique for flaw detection, sizing and imaging. A single PA probe is made up of many individual elements that can be fired in a certain sequence to produce a certain sound wave. The technique may seem complex, thus with our ultrasonic testing service in Malaysia, we help our trusted clients with all their testing needs.

Phased array uses the same physics of conventional ultrasonic’s but it is able to perform many scans from one probe to produce an image. The Inspections can be carried out on but not limited to Welds, Nozzles and Bolts. Corrosion Mapping can also be completed using the PAUT technique.

FAQ

PAUT is an advanced NDT method that uses ultrasonic testing probes to inspect more complex devices. It is often used for weld inspections and crack detention. However, PAUT can inspect almost any material that can be done by conventional ultrasonic testing methods.

PAUT is often used for steel and other metals and alloys. However, with certain adjustments, it can also be performed on concrete, wood and composites. This NDT method is used in many industries, such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and other transportation sectors.

PAUT is based on the principle of reflection, whereas TOFD is based on diffraction.

PAUT has a high penetrating power that enables flaws embedded deeply in the product to be detected, however small it may be. Moreover, in most cases, only one surface of the tested product needs to be accessible, making it very flexible and easy to work with a variety of products.
